Wellington cricketer James Franklin's Mumbai Indians are out of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 cricket competition after losing to the Stephen Fleming-coached Chennai Super Kings in today's elimination playoff.
Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashed an unbeaten half-century as the two-time defending champions scored a comfortable 38-run victory, ensuring a matchup with the Delhi Daredevils on Saturday (NZT) for a place in Monday's final against Kolkata.
Dhoni top-scored with 51 off 20 balls as Chennai amassed an imposing 187-5 and then restricted Mumbai to 149-9. Dwayne Bravo , who scored 33 not out off 14 balls and took 2-10 from three overs, was the other main performer for the winners.
Franklin had 1-12 from his one over with the ball and, batting at No 5 for Mumbai, scored 13 from 13, including a six, before he was caught at the wicket off Bravo's bowling.
