LUCKY BREAK: Pedro Garcias

Pedro Garcias is facing plastic surgery after breaking his nose on Sunday but the player-coach's pain was masked by Upper Hutt City's promotion to the Central League.

Garcias had a nasty collision with Palmerston North Marist's goalkeeper after just two minutes of the promotion playoff at Harcourt Park and was forced to sub himself off as blood poured from his nose.

There were some anxious moments on the sidelines as Marist scored first but Upper Hutt equalised as the second leg ended 1-1 for a 4-2 aggregate win.

"I went to the doctor last night and he said it was broken," Garcias said. "On Thursday I will go and see the plastic surgeon and see how bad it is. I'm looking pretty ugly so I might get it cut off."

Upper Hutt will replace relegated Maycenvale United in the Central League next season and Garcias was under no illusions about the step up in quality. "I would like to have between five and seven new players. But so many players are asking for so much money, it's not funny.

"Sometimes they create not the best atmosphere at a club, amongst the players. So the most important thing for me is to get players who will commit to play for Upper Hutt and be proud of the orange shirt."

Spokesman Phil Gorman said the club had been in a different format of the Central League in the 1990s. "So this will be the highest level of football that we've ever been able to play."

What effect will a potential ban on booze at Rugby Sevens 2015 have on you?

I'd no longer go ... what's the point?

I'd buy a ticket, with rugby the priority again.

Ban or no ban, I'm still going.

I'd rather watch 'Wheel of Fortune' on a 24/7 loop than 7s.
