Registrations for Wellington’s AMI Round the Bays run are at a record high and are expected to sell out ‘‘well before’’ the February 17 event.
Registrations today had reached 4300, compared to 1900 at this time last year, event director Craig Ireson from Sport Wellington said.
‘‘This means that the event will likely sell out well before the starter’s gun on February 17, despite the event’s capacity being increased by 1000.
‘‘It’s not just individuals entering, we already have 220 teams, and with each team having an average of 20 members who have yet to register so that’s a further 4000 participants which we are not yet counting in the 4,300.’’
Earlier this year, when 12,000 people entered, was the first time the run sold out.
While this year was on track to sell-out, money raised for official charity the Malaghan Institute was low. Only $2800 of the goal of $50,000 had been raised so far.
