OPINION: Paul Ifill's potentially career-ending Achilles injury is sickening. This is what I think about Paul Ifill.
He is the best player we've ever had at the club.
His strutting swagger means you can never mistake him from a distance.
He has a propensity to put on weight.
He talks out of the side of his mouth.
But what he does say is sprinkled with footballing wisdom.
His mazy runs have electrified many Phoenix games.
He appears to be a genuinely nice guy.
He is nowhere near as good as Biggles in the air.
But Biggles couldn't beat three players before scoring in the top corner.
If anyone can come back from such a shocking injury it's him.
But if it's curtains on his Phoenix career then let's retire his No 8 shirt.
Or honour him with a testimonial match.
Or at the very least allow the fans to say goodbye in a fitting manner.
Paul Ifill is our talisman and we don't want to lose him.
I'm sure all Phoenix fans wish him a speedy recovery in time to lift the 2014/15 A-League title.
