Tawa College's first XI will be surprise newcomers in premier one cricket this year.
With grading games to be completed this weekend, Tawa - who played in premier two last season - find themself in an unassailable position after posting four wins in pool one.
Tawa play Hutt International Boys 1 this weekend in their fifth and final grading game. Win or lose, HIBS look set to return again.
With new rules introduced by College Sport Wellington this year, other outsiders are poised to make their mark. Scots College could move up from premier two but face tough opposition this weekend in their must-win pool two games against Wellington College 2 and St Pat's Silverstream.
Hutt Valley High School could join St Pat's Town at the top of pool three. Wellington College 3, while well-performed, will most probably be ruled out by the one-team-per- school rule.
Last year - as in previous seasons - the top five teams from premier one automatically qualified for the next year. This year, however, a clean-slate policy follows similar changes made to premier one rugby grading last year.
Despite the changes, long-standing premier one teams Wellington College, St Pat's Town, St Pat's Silverstream and HIBS all look likely to return.
NEW RULES
Premier one boys' grading: One team to qualify per school. Three pools of six teams play five round-robin grading games. First two teams in each pool on points qualify for premier one. Third and fourth ranked teams per pool to premier two. Teams five and six to premier three.
