Q: Who are the sports stars at Sacred Heart?
Brydie Pye, Katarina Serepisos, Kate Enoka (NZ schoolgirls' water polo representatives)
Shay Dryden (Wellington under-21 touch team)
Aleisha Moen (NZ development squad netballer)
Nadine Manning (NZ gymnastics rep)
We've also got quite a few representatives in various sports like golf, basketball, netball and hockey.
What are the most popular sports?
Like all other girls' schools, netball is the biggest in terms of participation followed closely by football. Hockey is another big one and water polo. Tennis and touch are the summer ones.
What does the sports captain do?
We are hosting the girls' zone athletics championships at Newtown Park, so I'll go along with the sports council and lend a hand.
There are about 10 of us on the sports council and we're all in year 13, and it's my job to lead it.
What are the big events in term one?
Last week we had our athletics sports at the Petone Rec. We are in the dragon boating this Sunday – it was postponed last weekend because of the tsunami warning.
We have our swimming sports coming up pretty soon.
Our softball girls are going away to the division one tournament in Hastings.
The water polo team has the North Island championships later this month.
Tell us about your involvement in sport?
I play for the Wellington under-18 girls' hockey team. I captained our first XI hockey side last year. We have quite a few fitness trainings and I try and do as much in my own time as possible.
I'm pretty busy during the season with my club team, school and rep hockey.
I'm the coach and captain of the school first XI cricket. I'm in the Wellington under-18 team and also the Wellington Blaze development squad.
Cricket and hockey kind of relate to each other.
I also play touch and do dragon boating.
Tell us about some of your school's best results or best teams?
We won the water polo nationals last year. We've only lost two players from that team this year so I'd imagine we'd be pretty strong again.
We have an annual hockey tournament called Te Toa, played against the other Sacred Heart schools in Napier, Hamilton and New Plymouth. The Mission Cup is the netball equivalent.
We won both those events last year, and that was the only time that one school has held both titles in the same year.
