The Wellington Saints' locker room will be an interesting place to be this season.

The Saints yesterday signed a Barack Obama mimic and Gandalf's stunt double to their National Basketball League roster.

Andrew Warren, an American who gained media coverage for his uncanny impersonations of US President Obama, has put pen to paper, while the Saints have also lured Mike Homik out of retirement.

Homik hung up his boots after playing for Manawatu last year to concentrate on his duties as Gandalf's stunt double in The Hobbit.

A member of The Stunt Guild of New Zealand, Homik also has Yogi Bear, The Chronicles of Narnia and Spartacus on his CV.

And if that wasn't enough, Casey Frank is a former Narnia extra, while Arthur Trousdell auditioned as an extra for Lord of The Rings.

Basketball-wise, 34-year-old power forward Homik is a former Tall Black and has won four NBL titles with the Auckland Stars and Waikato Pistons.

"Mike is a great guy to have in the team this year," Saints coach Pero Cameron said.

"He's a veteran with great leadership, defensive presence, and he fits our team ethos".

The Saints' season tips off on April 19 against Taranaki.

Cameron is yet to decide whether he will seek a second import but the roster is already loaded with enough talent to make a serious run at the title.

Lindsay Tait, Corey Webster, Dillon Boucher, Damien Ekenasio and Jordan Mills are the other confirmed players on the roster.
