The Hurricanes have been boosted ahead of the start of the Super Rugby season with promising young forwards Brad Shields and Reggie Goodes signing new contracts through to the end of 2014.
Shields is regarded as one of the most promising loose forwards in the country while South African-born Goodes has bolstered the Canes' propping ranks.
"I'm stoked that I can play where I love and I can't see myself playing anywhere else. There is such an awesome team culture here and it is pretty special to be a part of it," Shields said today, confirming he would also play for Wellington again this year.
Both players are expected to be in the Hurricanes mix when coach Mark Hammett names his team to host the Blues in their Super Rugby opener in Wellington on Saturday night.
The Hurricanes won two of their three preseason games and are looking to push on from last year's successful rebuilding season.
