Canada-bound teenage high jumper Keeley O'Hagan is rapidly inching towards the women's Commonwealth Games qualifying standard.
The 15-year-old national junior representative who last weekend qualified for the upcoming world junior athletics championships in Canada, will start as favourite in the women's high jump and long jump at today's Wellington championships at Newtown Park.
The Otaki schoolgirl holds national secondary schools junior titles in both events.
Though O'Hagan is 3cm short of the Games mark of 1.86m, and still has a long way to climb to reach the national record of 1.92m, she can pack her bags for her first major overseas meet.
Others in action today are Leesa Lealai-Salanoa in the women's throwing events and Anna Roche in the 800m.
The men's middle-distance races feature newcomer James List, from Otago, in the 800m and 1500m. List has shifted to Wellington to train with Tony Rogers.
