They can't win the Pearce Cup, but Onslow are going to have some fun along the way.

The Khandallah-based club batted all day against North City at Linden Park on Saturday and racked up a phenomenal 494-9.

Blair Parlane (133) and Liam Chrisp (147) set a club record with their 276-run stand for the fourth wicket as Norths' off-spinner Ben Jansen wheeled down 41 overs for 5-176.

"I've been playing club cricket for a long time and I've never seen anything like that," Onslow captain Glynn Howell said.

"It was an incredibly good batting wicket, the guys were dropped early on and they certainly capitalised."

Onslow are third behind guaranteed finalists Eastern Suburbs and Karori.

Howell defended the decision to bat all day.

"We want to get first-innings points and cement ourselves in third. We might bat on for 500 next week."

Karori are well on top against Naenae Old Boys. Naenae were skittled for just 81, with skipper Adam Williams the only batsman to show any resistance with 41.

Lee Edwards (5-36) and Sunnie Chan (5-44) bowled unchanged for Karori, who made 200 all out in reply.

The in-form Tom Blundell top-scored with 71, supported by No 10 Jarrad Sewell who staked a claim for a promotion with 50.

Williams topped off a good day to be the best Naenae bowler with 4-31.

Karori were 84-7 at one point, before fighting back into the match.

The final will be a rematch between Easts and Karori, this time at Karori Park. While Easts won't be happy with Cricket Wellington's decision, Baker said it was the best option available.

Easts are on top of Hutt District, seamer Ricky Joseph claiming 7-34 to rout Hutt for 84.

Easts then declared at 293-3, thanks mainly to a brisk, unbroken fourth wicket stand of 222 between Jeremy Dean (129) and Scott Golder (101).

Hutt are 20-1 in their second innings.

Bottom-placed University scored 254 against Taita with veteran Graham Murray hitting 94. Taita are 74-2 in reply.

In the Hazlett Trophy, leaders Collegians demolished Taita B by an innings.

John Peters top scored with 50 as Collegians scored 202 before Taita B collapsed for 57 and 78.

Steve Fairbrother (6-19), James Leslie (5-24) and Clinton Butler (4-23 and 3-20) were all among the wickets.

Norths B (220) and Johnsonville (150-6) are evenly poised with Johnsonville's Mark Pulley (76) and Sam Outtrim (4-58) the individual standouts.

Wellington College (62 and 228-5) had an interesting tussle with Karori B (109), with Karori's Fraser Te Aika (6-35) and College's Luke Scully (102 not out) the individual stars.
