Hurricanes centre Ma'a Nonu has been cited for making a dangerous tackle during his team's Super 14 rugby loss to the Stormers in Cape Town yesterday.
The All Blacks midfield back will appear at a judicial hearing tomorrow (NZT).
The incident arose late in the match, which the Stormers won 37-13, when Nonu was alleged to have tackled Stormers first five-eighth Peter Grant above shoulder level.
Nonu's citing comes just a week after he avoided a citing for an ill-judged "spear" tackle in the side's 12-28 defeat to the Cheetahs.
Nonu upended Cheetahs captain Juan Smith in the Bloemfontein match which, at the time touch-judge Jonathan Kaplan recommended the offence was worth "at least a yellow card", and Nonu was duly despatched to the sin-bin.
South Africa's stand-in citing commissioner Andy Pryor ruled there was no cause for a citing and cleared Nonu to face the Stormers, from which he has been cited.
Today's citing has complicated a difficult week for the Hurricanes as they contemplate meeting the defending champion Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.
They will have to do that without their most consistent back Cory Jane.
Hurricanes coach Colin Cooper confirmed that Jane wouldn’t play against the Bulls after being knocked out in the heavy loss to the Stormers.
Fullback Jane was bounced while trying to tackle the Stormers big Fijian wing Sireli Naqelevuki and left the field dazed and bloodied.
No risks will be taken with Jane.
