Shane Cameron has been forced to postpone his Wellington fight later this month, but hopes to be back in the ring against Puerto Rican Israel Garcia in June.

Cameron's scheduled fight at TSB Arena, on Queens Wharf on April 24, has been postponed after his Australian opponent Michael Kirby detached a retina during training last week.

The sudden withdrawal is a blow to Cameron, who is desperate to get back in the ring following his farcical win over former Australian rugby league player John Hopoate.

Cameron's manager, Ken Reinsfield, said Garcia could not replace Kirby as he was still recovering from cuts received in his last fight.

However, Reinsfield said the match-up was still on the cards and could be organised by the middle of the year.

Garcia has been a recent sparring partner for David Tua.

In the meantime, Reinsfield is looking at rescheduling the Cameron-Kirby fight as a one-off event in Auckland to recoup costs from the main bout's cancellation.

Reinsfield said Cameron would take another fight if something popped up in the next few weeks.

"Even if it's a fight just to keep him busy... he doesn't have an ego where he says I won't fight on that card or whatever."

The american heavies are a joke at the moment and even americans are sick of them and are crying out for someone like Tua to come back to the states. And how many belts do americans hold at heavyweight? The answer is none. You're such a tough guy calling Tua soft on a blog when he's never even being knocked down in the ring.

"he doesn't have an ego where he says I won't fight on that card or whatever." This should have finished with "except Duco cards - we wont fight on them". After all, Ken was quoted after the Tua fight saying he wouldn't work with Duco ever again - and this was proven when Garcia & Duco contacted Ken & Shane when Garcia's opponent pulled out of their fight on the Friday - Tua undercard. Whats more Shane cant say he wasn't ready for a fight - he'd just had Hoppa lean on him for a copuple of rounds (not hit him), was in shape, and didn't have any cuts / injuries... Isn't it funny how the story changes...

"..he doesn't have an ego.." No, he doesn't have a choice!

Has anyone spoken to Chauncy Welliver? This would actually be a good fight IMO, Chauncy has the skills and jaw to give Shane some good rounds and is a good enough boxer to potentially take the win.
