Michael McGlinchey's Wellington Phoenix debut has been put on ice, with the All Whites midfielder no longer featuring in a pre-season game tonight.
Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick said yesterday that the 27-year-old was set to take the pitch against Central League club Wellington Olympic at Petone Memorial Park tonight.
''I think he'll get some game time [tonight], yeah,'' Merrick said.
But Phoenix general manager David Dome said today that McGlinchey would not be featuring, with Merrick deciding he was not quite physically ready to play.
Dome said the decision had nothing to do with the contract dispute surrounding the player: both the Phoenix and A-League rivals Central Coast Mariners claim to hold valid contracts for the Wellington-born playmaker.
A Mariners spokesman said that the McGlinchey dispute was in mediation again today.
Professional Footballers Australia are backing McGlinchey's right to play for the Phoenix, while Football Federation Australia are yet to make a ruling on the players' status.
