OK! magazine reported Hudgens, 18, had been axed from starring in the third film in the hugely popular High School Music series.
A representative for Hudgens denied the claims, telling www.cinematical.com the star was "still in negotiations" with Disney.
But OK! magazine quoted an inside source as saying Disney wanted her co-star, Zac Effron, to carry the movie on his own.
"Disney finally decided that they don't want her back," the source said.
"They feel that as long as Zac Efron is in the movie, all will be fine. He comes without baggage."
Controversial nude photos of Hudgens hit the net last month in a scandal that saw the star shed her goody-two-shoes image.
More photos of her posing provocatively with a friend in lingerie hit the net a few days later.
Hudgens apologised for the photos and said she was "embarrassed". Disney said at the time they were standing by the star.
