Trent Reznor - the front man for Nine Inch Nails, the industrial rock act scheduled to perform in Auckland tonight - has confirmed the band will go into hiatus after a final run of shows this year.
In a posting called "A note from Trent and a wave goodbye" on the band's official website, www.nin.com, Reznor said Nine Inch Nails planned to "disappear for a while" following a US tour with Jane's Addiction.
He also promised the shows - including tonight's gig at Auckland's Vector Arena - would be "raw, spontaneous and less scripted".
"I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while," Reznor posted.
"Last year's Lights in the Sky tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production.
"It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed.
"After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year - much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted.
"Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye."
Reznor said a run of US shows with Jane's Addiction would be among the last the band performed before going on hiatus.
Reznor is rumoured to producing a new album by the band.
Tonight's show at Vector Arena in Auckland is the first time the band have played in New Zealand since the 2000 Big Day Out.
Stuff.co.nz will have a reviewer and photographer at the show. Check back tomorrow for a full review and photo gallery.
