Handsome leading man Patrick Dempsey - "Dr McDreamy" in television drama Grey's Anatomy - has been named People magazine's Star Of The Year after a stellar year, off and on screen.
Dempsey, 41, who also plays the lovable but lonely attorney in the hit Disney movie Enchanted, is featured on the cover of the American celebrity magazine's year-end issue that focuses on the best - and the worst - of the year.
This year Dempsey made his mark in the celebrity media with his hit TV show, box office smash and the birth of twin boys Darby Galen and Sullivan Patrick to his second wife.
"I'm just enjoying life more than I ever have ... I'm trying to enjoy the moment while it's here and to be able to provide for my family so that I can step away and enjoy raising them away from all this,"
Dempsey told the magazine.
People also paid tribute to eight other stars whose careers skyrocketed in 2007.
The title of The Breakout went to actress Amy Adams, who starred alongside Dempsey in Enchanted, while Katherine Heigl, also in Grey's Anatomy and the hit comedy movie Knocked Up, was named America's New Sweetheart.
Country singer Carrie Underwood, winner of the fourth season of American Idol, was named The Chart Topper, while Will Smith was named The Biggest Legend, and TV actress Christina Applegate was Comeback of the Year.
Matt Damon was named The Sexiest Hero and Johnny Depp Most Versatile Actor after moving from pirate ships to menace audiences as the serial-killing barber in Sweeney Todd.
A poll of readers decided on the most talked about star of the year and it came as no surprise - Britney Spears.
The fallen pop princess' stint in rehab, bizarre behaviour, and custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline over their two young sons dominated tabloid headlines.
By contrast readers voted Ben Affleck as the Best Behaved Star of 2007, proving that he had matured into a model father and husband with wife Jennifer Garner and baby Violet.
