Actress in stalker crossbow attack horror
An alleged stalker obsessed with a young Spanish actress shot at her with a crossbow before being wrestled to the ground and arrested outside a Madrid theatre.
Sara Casanovas, 25, who has appeared in several popular TV series in Spain, had just finished a theatre performance on Sunday night when she narrowly avoided being hit in the face outside the stage doors, a police official said.
The arrow hit a male bystander instead, becoming caught in his jacket and not injuring him, Sky News reported.
The attacker was believed to be a 39-year-old German man who became obsessed with Casanovas after seeing her 18 months ago on Spanish National Television's international channel.
He was wrestled to the ground and arrested as friends went to Casanovas' aid.
The man had been sending Casanovas love letters and confronted her after her performance in Night of the Iguana.
He attacked her after she told him she wanted nothing to do with him.
The man was carrying a military-style backpack that had a second crossbow, arrows with harpoon-style tips, a can of gasoline, handcuffs, rope, a can of mace and a poster from a play in which Casanovas had performed a few months ago, the official said.
Casanovas was taken to hospital suffering from a panic attack but was not injured in the incident.
