Betty White, the 87-year-old former star of hit sitcom Golden Girls, begged the writers of The Proposal to let her get naked in the film.

White, who stars alongside Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in the romantic comedy currently on screens, said she wanted to get naked alongside her co-stars.

"I begged to ... have them let me do a nude scene, but they wouldn't, they just wouldn't," White told reporter Elizabeth Snead.

"I said, 'Well, it's a comedy and I'll get laughs, I guarantee it.'"

Bullock, Reynolds and co-star Oscar Nunez all appear naked in The Proposal. Bullock told Snead she was comfortable with the nudity.

"Well, full frontal nudity ... in my case, makes some of the most humorous moments. It does in my house,"

"When I show myself naked at home, the laughter just permeates the walls in the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood always knows when I'm naked.

Bullock said her nude scene with Reynolds was the easist to film.

"Oscar was hanging out in the wind all by himself. So it was easier for me to do the naked scene (with Ryan), harder for me to watch Oscar. He's brilliant, brilliant, brilliant."
