The raunchy video, which has been placed on YouTube, shows Britney in a bar dancing around a pole wearing a black studded jacket, tiny black shorts and see-through stockings.
Britney, who had her hair extensions died black for the clip, is later joined by two blonde dancers.
The 25-year-old star chose first-time director Jake Sarfaty for the project, which was shot over two days.
Her record label, Jive, revealed the video was entirely Britney's "concept and her vision".
Although critics say the choreography isn't mind-blowing, they admit it's a huge improvement on Britney's performance at last month's MTV Video Music Awards, where she danced awkwardly and unenthusiastically around the stage.
It has been a turbulent few weeks for Britney. A judge last week ordered that Britney's ex Kevin Federline be granted custody of their two children indefinitely.
But Gimme More soared 65 places to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart after selling 179,000 downloads.
Britney Spears' first studio album in four years will be called Blackout, and is due in New Zealand stores on November 12.
