Music icon David Bowie is the latest rumour to spread ahead of the first line-up announcement for next year's Big Day Out music festival.
The Bowie rumour has been reported on several websites ahead of the announcement, scheduled for next Tuesday morning.
Australian website TripleM reported the rumour following an alleged comment by Big Day Out promoter Ken West on a music forum saying simply: "David Bowie is confirmed."
One website suggested Bowie would be performing an exclusive acoustic set.
Kiwi blogger Russell Brown also reported the rumour. The reports could not be confirmed.
Other acts rumoured for next year's January festival, to be held at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium, include Eminem, Muse, Weezer, The Mars Volta, Grizzly Bear and Blink 182.
Organisers have already said that Limp Bizkit, who were rumoured at one stage, would not be performing.
This year's festival, New Zealand's biggest, was headlined by Neil Young, with the Prodigy, Arctic Monkeys and The Living End also performing.
Stuff.co.nz will have all the details of the Big Day Out line-up at 9am on Tuesday morning.
