Prime Minister John Key has embraced the silly season with a wobbly performance of Snoopy's Christmas on The Edge radio station.

The Prime Minister engaged in wide-ranging banter with hosts Dominic Harvey and JJ Feeney, discussing, among other things, his year in the top job, Christmas holiday plans, and his daughter's ice cream habits.

Mr Key acknowledged that letting his guard down on commercial radio was not something his predecessor in the country's top job, Helen Clark, would do. "And that's why she lasted nine years," he joked.

Asked if he had a Christmas message to New Zealanders, he said: "Enjoy the best of New Zealand, it's a wonderful country, it's an amazing place."

The Key family, however, would be holidaying in Hawaii, where he owns an apartment in Maui.

He said his work would slow down, but not stop on holiday.

Security would travel with his family to Hawaii, and duties might include applying sunscreen and serving pina coladas.

"It will be much quieter. The political journalists go away, you go away," he said.

Reflecting on a busy year, John Key said he had had fun but the travel had been the hardest part.

"Copenhagen was a long way to go for 24 hours. A long way for a bacon sandwich..."

Comments on YouTube ranged from: "That's so creepy" to "he's probly th most laid bk PM in th world, which is jst typical kiwi plus he jst cracks me up..lol."

Please, please, PLEASE...can we trade you Obama for Key? John Key just gave me real hope...we have a diabolical Illuminati puppet pretending to run our country, and you have a real human being running yours. Cheers to all of you Kiwis!

What a loser. I cringe every time John Key opens his mouth to say anything, let alone attempt to sing.....I am embarrassed for New Zealand that we have elected such a leader who shows his political naivety at every opportunity he can. We need Politicians to be Politicians not Bankers pretending to be Politicians...enough said.

John who??????????

Hayden   #91   02:00 pm Dec 24 2009

Stephanie # 87...I can assure you that this is 100% NOT a tax funded trip. John Key is worth in excess of $50M and has a Beach House (small Castle) in Hawaii which he flies his family to every year (on his own money). I can assure that a christmas holiday on the taxpayer would be political suicide!! Even 'down with the peeps - JK" is not THAT dumb!

Just to Glenn who called everyone "morons",We pretty smart pple,I am in Hawaii as well in my holiday home, but kiwis are upset coz of unfinished business. Mr Key is likeable, but he is not clear on policies. He stumbles a lot.PPle need clarity to plan ahead and to see major issues being properly addressed. Likeable people can lose support for being to "soft" and "clinchinching to their "I wanna be liked attitude".

Wow! So many grinches on this post. Here's how I see it. We have a Prime Minister who is as down to earth and laid back as most NZ'ers. He wants people to see that he is, mostly, just like them. Not afraid to let his hair down, have a joke, sing a song, get in the christmas spirit and generally enjoy living in and with New Zealanders. He does not have a rod shoved up his back, like our last PM, and he knows how to smile and be honest with the average Joe on the street. And yet there are those morons who would see the opportunity to put the slipper into him just because he is a man of the people and enjoys being himself and not a political robot like those who have come and gone before him. To all the knockers on this post...get a life you idiots. Enjoy the fact that we are in a festive part of the year and that we can all relax knowing that the country is in good hands while we are all getting plastered this festive break. Keep up the GREAT work JK and enjoy the tax payer paid holiday that you so richly deserve for all of your hard work thus far. I am happy to contribute a couple of cents towards your fares and accommodation. In my mind you have earned it. Merry Christmas to all, even the grinches!

Those people winging about John Key not being serious enough...get a life! He's on The Edge morning show during the Christmas period. I think he did very well and was entertaining. We need a leader that will show us how to relax a bit!

JK's winner - no doubt in my mind. We may have had a depressing year in business, been bled dry by the IRD and been ripped by the banks, but with John Key for PM we're all winners. He's awesome! What an inspration!
