Mel Gibson has been dumped by his management agency.
The 54-year-old actor has been in the headlines recently after recordings of him screaming racist insults and threats during an argument with his then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva were leaked to a gossip website. Oksana later claimed that Mel had been violent towards her several times, on one occasion giving her a black eye and knocking out her teeth.
Mel's representatives have refused to comment on the allegations.
Yesterday, the star's long-term agent William Morris Endeavor confirmed Mel was no longer a client. Mel's longterm agent Ed Limato passed away last week, and The Hollywood Reporter claims the agency's boss Ari Emanuel made the decision to drop Mel. Ari has reportedly been trying to get rid of the actor since his public anti-Semitic tirade in 2006.
The recording of Mel arguing with Oksana was released online yesterday afternoon and shocked many with its "hate-filled" content. A voice that reportedly belongs to Mel is heard telling Oksana that she "deserves" to be raped by a pack of "n******", and that he wanted to "bury her in a rose garden".
Mel went public with his relationship with Oksana last year, just one month after he filed for divorce from his wife of nearly 30 years Robyn. Oksana and Mel welcomed baby Lucia in October, but split in April.
The relationship quickly became acrimonious, with Oksana filing for a restraining order against Mel last month. In response, Mel, 54, filed paperwork for custody of Lucia.
Yesterday, it was revealed that Los Angeles police were investigating Mel for an alleged domestic violence incident, which could land him a lengthy prison sentence if he was found guilty.
Meanwhile, gossip website TMZ reports Mel's lawyers have filed legal papers in their custody battle, asking the judge to hold Oksana in contempt. The paperwork accused Oksana of leaking the secretly-recorded tapes of Mel to the media, potentially damaging his chance of a fair trial. The documents also ask for a search warrant to allow Mel's lawyers to search Oksana's computer and phone for proof she sold the tapes.
Oksana's deposition denies she leaked the recordings.
