Californication star Natascha McElhone has been left devastated by the sudden death of her husband.

The 42-year-old star - who is pregnant with the couple's third child - is said to be in a state of shock after her spouse, top plastic surgeon Martin Kelly, was found slumped on the doorstep of the couple's London home.

He was discovered on the night of May 20 by a fellow doctor and it is thought he may have had a heart attack.

Natascha's stepfather Roy Greenslade said: "It's still a mystery about the death. It's so unexpected. Such a fit, handsome, fighting fit young man of 42. So we are in a bit of a terrible state, to be honest.

"It's just completely baffling. A medical colleague was on hand, so he had the best possible chance but was just unable to revive him.

"There was no indication, not in the least. He was a great rider, a great skier, and he was just a fit, fit, kind of chap."

Natascha - who stars in the TV3 series Californication alongside David Duchovny  - already has two children with Martin, Theodore, eight, and five-year-old Otis.

She has travelled back to the UK from Los Angeles, where she had been filming.
