Britney Spears' sister Jamie Lynn has named her newborn daughter after her favourite children's book series, it has been reported.

The 17-year-old, who gave birth to her first child with her 19-year-old boyfriend Casey Aldridge last Thursday, has named her daughter Maddie Briann - after the Madeline book series.

According to the New York Daily News, Jamie Lynn's fascination with the Ludwig Bemelman classics were the inspiration for her daughter's name.

"Jamie was a huge fan of the Madeline children's books when she was a little girl and always wanted to name her daughter that," a source told the paper.

The teen star of Zoey 101 stunned fans when she announced her pregnancy last year, at just 16 years of age.

Jamie Lynn and Casey got engaged in March but reportedly delayed the wedding because of the birth.

My first reaction was "Brian is a boy's name", but now I think that it's really cute.

I do agree that her proper name should have been Madeleine, though.

I want to see pictures of the two, or three, of them together!

I think its quite sweet. she could have done a lot worse. Better than being named after her Aunty Britney like thousands of poor other girls around the world.

I think the name is cute, but you can definately tell that a seventeen year old named her. I do think that Maddie is cute, but they should've gave her a formal name and made that the nickname. Briann is, I'm guessing after her brother Brian, but if not then I think an 'E' at the end would've been better, but it is her decision and her baby.

people need to worry more about their own lives and judge themselves before they judge others...she likes the name...she is the mom it is her decision...NOT YOURS

Excuse me "SAM" im a mother and i had my daughter at 16,so how is it sick? and just bcuz im younge doesnt mean anything,im probably a better parent than u cud ever be! Just bcuz of an age shouldnt mean anything,i dnt smoke, drink or do drugs and i look after my daughter myself! so dont judge someone bcuz ov there age! I think jamie-lynn daughters names a bit weird but good luck to her in the future!

well i don't know to much about jamie spears but she's the mom and she has the right to name her baby what ever she wants with out people running it through the mud. i mean we could probably put all your kids or baby names on here and there would probably be alot to say about them too. and i'm sure their mommy's wouldn't like it either. and just cause she's 17 doesn't make her a bad mom. i'm 17 and i'm raising a beautiful daughter and i love her more than anything in this world. the name maddie is kind of a nickname but it's over all cute. besides i think out of the box names are better than formal ones anyway. my babies name is allie christine and there isn't a comment in this world that could make me regret it and i'm sure she feels the same way.
