A young Nelson woman has landed a top role in one of the Disney Channel's highest-rating television shows.
Former Nayland College student Amelia Reynolds, 19, who is now based in Wellington, was this week named as part of the 10-strong cast for the second season of the Australian-made comedy As the Bell Rings.
Disney describes the show as a fly-on-the-wall look at the everyday antics that take place in school corridors between classes. It is aimed at a "tween" audience.
The show is filmed in Melbourne and the rest of the teenage cast are Australian.
Miss Reynolds plays an aspiring journalist who edits the school newspaper.
She has returned to university after shooting wrapped two weeks ago.
Miss Reynolds said the experience had been good for her.
"It's Disney, so it's a major production company."
Her next acting appearance will be in a production at the capital's Bats Theatre.
Her mother, Robyn Reynolds, said she was "really proud" of her daughter.
"Acting is her world. She comes alive, you know, when she's in front of the camera."
Miss Reynolds started acting at the age of seven, when she landed a guest role in the Cloud Nine show William Tell.
In 2001, she won her first major TV role, as Tally in the New Zealand-made show The Tribe, an international hit. Since then she has had various guest appearances in TV shows, such as Ivanhoe and Atlantis High, and in the short film The Murder House.
Miss Reynolds said As the Bell Rings was scheduled to screen early next year.
