Dexter star Michael C Hall is reportedly dating his sister on the hit serial killer show - and network bosses aren't happy about it.

Hall, who plays serial killer Dexter on US cable network Showtime's controversial show, has allegedly moved in with Jennifer Carpenter.

Carpenter plays Dexter's sister on the show, and the National Enquirer reported the pair had been dating for about a year after Hall divorced his ex-wife, Amy Spangler.

Starpulse.com reported the relationship had angered studio bosses at Showtime, who thought their relationship could confuse fans.

"For months they tried to keep the romance a secret by going to out-of-the-way places and avoiding each other on the set," a source told Starpulse.

"They still refuse to acknowledge they're in a relationship, but everyone on the set knows they're together."

Season three of Dexter begins screening in America this month.
