The MTV Awards are a chance for celebs to kick back and have fun, and there was a definite circus theme to this year's proceedings. But that didn't mean Pink had to wear a dress made from a circus tent.

The pop star's red and black voluminous dress looked like it was made from a big top - of the circus variety - and it was a big flop.

Gossip-monger Perez Hilton also went for a stripy theme. Perhaps the inspiration for his suit came from a favourite pair of pyjamas?

Controversial pop star Katy Perry looked like a '40s pin-up but those satin hot pants were not for the faint-hearted.

Also plumping for satin was Perry's new-found friend Lindsay Lohan, but the deep purple figure-hugging mini-dress sapped her complexion and made her look lacklustre on the red carpet.

Finally, Christina Aguilera looked like she was auditioning for a role in the upcoming Catwoman movie.

Her slinky outfit came complete with dramatic cat-like eye makeup.

I agree with the slammings. Except for Pink I think her dress was fine - perhaps she was trying to go for that big top circus look

I love Christian proformance... She rocked... She looked great and I really think that she rocked the house. That song rocked and I am a big fan... Pink looke great and I love her proformance also... I think that everyone is playing way to much into Brintany thing don't really think that she did much...

Christina is a beautiful woman with an angel's voice. I don't know why she thought she had to dress like Elvira. I hated that look.

Britney had the best outfit. Everyone look like trashy or circus like. Aguilera just look like a sad tranny or a sad pop artist trying to resurrect her career. The hair and the make up, and the outfit look like pathetic. The lipsyncing shows what a hypocrite she is about her voice.

I loved pink's dress!! it has a point of difference and wasn't like the same old dress that everyone else had, plus it's very "pink" she's never been one to conform to the latest trends, instead she consistently makes her own statements. rock on pink!

Pink's dress is fantastic...she looks amazing! As does Lohan, it's the best I've seen her look in a very long time.

Katy Perry's outfit is AWFUL. Simply terrible.

Christina's dress would have been fine but for the saggy cleavage. The dress looked like it started halfway down her waist.

Perez looks like a clown, as always.
