Steve Morris - a 47-year-old chicken farmer from Marion, Virginia, who has been nicknamed 'Chicken' most of his life - was the first person voted out of the new season of Survivor which began screening on TV3 last night.
Chicken was evicted by his tribe, Zhan Hu, over his lack of communication skills - despite WWE wrestler Ashlee being visibly ill and unable to participate around camp.
In an exclusive interview with Stuff.co.nz, Chicken called his team "stupid" and said he deserved to stay in the running for the $US1 million prize.
"These people don't want to win the game," Chicken said.
"They've done everything for the wrong reasons. I have no idea why they'd vote the strongest person out first. It's unbelievable.
"They're just not thinking about winning the game, they're not thinking about tomorrow or the next day.
"They're just flying by the seat of their hind end and they've just done the wrong thing. I'm dealing with a bunch of stupid people, what can I say?"
Chicken said his team mates struggled to unite during challenges, letting the opposing tribe Fei Long win rewards and immunity.
"They (Fei Long) came together right from the start and that's what you've gotta do. If Zhan Hu don't come together since voting me off they're going down."
Chicken said the high temperatures took a while to get used to but his biggest challenge was connecting with his team mates - which led to his eviction.
"For me, there wasn't nothing tough about it. My biggest challenge was getting along with different people. I was expecting to go for a long time - for a long, long time. I really was.
He said his unusual reaction at being eliminated - in which he surprised team mates at tribal council by yelling "dang!" - wasn't planned.
"That's the way I felt at that second. I let everyone know how I felt."
Chicken picks a woman will win the competition. He said he wouldn't change anything about his time on the show and would love to have another go.
"I'd still be the same old person, the same old way, and if they (his team mates) didn't change any I'd probably be the first one to leave again."
