CD review: No Light - The Naked and Famous
Relevant offers
Oh heck, they've done it again. Auckland boy-girl group The Naked and Famous prove their debut, the EP This Machine released in May, was no fluke with another equally excellent release.
No Light, another six-track EP similar to the first in everything from artwork to song titles, adds some quite thrilling Queens of the Stone Age scuzz-rock into their mix of electro-pop and dance-rock.
The results suit them well, with a harder edge showing through on electric opener Dadada and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs-inspired Cheek, complete with dirty guitar riffs and electronic flourishes.
But the band's real potential shines through on rough diamonds Birds and Part 2, with both containing choruses you'll be humming to yourself for days.
No Light is yet another confident statement of intent from an up-and-coming Kiwi band that deserves all the hype it's getting.
They've nailed the EP format - all The Naked and Famous have to do now is repeat the trick on a full-length album.
* The Naked and Famous' EPs This Machine and No Light are out now through Universal.
