Robbie Williams provided the soundtrack to Wellington's trick-or-treaters on Saturday night as he rocked the Basin Reserve.

The crooner was in town to perform his 'Let Me Entertain You' tour, before heading to Auckland for his next show on Tuesday.

It's been 15 years since the Millenium superstar last performed in Wellington, to a crowd of 42,500 at the Westpac Stadium.

Tonight, about 10,000 people packed the Basin Reserve expecting to be entertained.

But many more got a free concert, with Robbie's vocals lifting over Wellington's CBD, Te Aro and Newtown.

Thomas Morgan lives near the Wellington Zoo in Newtown, and said he could hear the show from his house.

"It feels like the whole area is going to the concert whether you bought a ticket or not," he said.

"I went outside a minute ago and I may as well have been at the Basin Reserve."

He though the show sounded like "a blast".
