Former Hey Dad! star Robert Hughes, 63, has appeared briefly in Westminster Magistrates Court in relation to child sexual offences in Australia.
The charges are believed to relate to crimes against five girls between 1985 and 1990 in several northern Sydney suburbs.
Hughes’ appearance followed his arrest in London at 7am local time.
His lawyer, Robert Katz, asked the court for more time to study his arrest documents and to consult with his client. District Judge
Michael Snow granted an adjournment until 2pm local time.
Barrister Katherine Tyler appeared on behalf of the Australian Government, which is expected to seek Hughes’ extradition to New South Wales.
Australian investigators reportedly plan to travel to the United Kingdom at a later date.
In 2010 Sarah Monahan, who as a child played schoolgirl Jenny Kelly in the hit ‘80s sitcom, publicly claimed she had been molested on the set from the age of six.
Hughes vehemently denied those allegations and hired a defamation lawyer.
