Actor Temuera Morrison talks about the film Mahana

Temuera Morrison says he knows that his performance in Mahana is the best of his career, better even than Once Were Warriors, when he first worked with director Lee Tamahori.

Being reunited with the director 20 years later was a joy, said Morrison, but it meant that he had to step up his acting game. "You bring your A ++ game with that man."

Morrison plays another angry man in Mahana, the film adaptation of Witi Ihimaera's beloved novel Bulibasha, first published in 1994. This time he is the Mahana family patriarch, Tamihana, who leads a top shearing gang.
