The magical Mary Poppins has blown into New Zealand and it's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Based on the beloved books by PL Travers, and the 1964 movie starring Julie Andrews, the award-winning musical began almost a week of preview performances at Auckland's Civic Theatre last night.
The New Zealand production comes direct from Australia, where it has played almost continuously since July 2010. In Melbourne it played to completely sold out theatres for nine months straight.
With four productions currently running on three continents, Mary Poppins has grossed more than US$679 million, and has been seen by almost 10 million people and won 44 theatre awards.
