Justin Bieber takes a break from tour in Arrowtown
Justin Bieber has been spotted around Arrowtown and Queenstown as he takes a break between concerts.
Wakatipu High School student Nell Watherston, 14, was excited to have seen Bieber twice in the weekend, in Auckland and Arrowtown.
"We were told he [Bieber] was in Arrowtown so we thought we would go and find him," Watherston said.
Watherston even touched the celebrity's shoulder as he brushed past her and about 60 other fans walking to his car near the Dorothy Browns movie theatre.
"It was a special moment . . . It was very cool."
As he walked past Bieber had a brief conversation with the fans, who had waited about an hour.
"He said 'hi girls, how are you?'"
"We apologised for interfering but he said 'don't be sorry for something you haven't done'," Watherston said.
Watherston and her friends made the most of their day off school on Otago Anniversary Day on Monday and had been walking around Queenstown in the hope of spotting Beiber again.
"It would have been cool to see him again."
It was understood Bieber booked the neighbouring Agave and Saffron restaurants for Sunday dinner, but chose Saffron as it was "more intimate".
Staff declined to comment.
A worker at Arrowtown's Remarkables Sweet Shop said on Sunday Beliebers were holding signs and waiting for the singer on the main street.
Goals clothing shop worker Shannon Nugent, of Arrowtown, said she had not seen Bieber in town.
"We haven't seen him – not yet anyway. I'd be surprised if he comes to Arrowtown.
"He may be on the DL [down low]", Nugent said.
She said people should let Bieber "chill out" in the area and not stalk him.
Bieber is reportedly staying at The Hills' Lodge, which costs $32,250 per night during the high season from August to June.
Actress Reese Witherspoon and her co-star Storm Reid also stopped in Arrowtown last month, between filming at Lake Hawea.
Nugent met Reese and said the actress was "really sweet and lovely".
Bieber's next Purpose World Tour stop is in Santiago, Chile, on March 23.
