A mad rush for Lorde's video for her new single Team has crashed music video website Vevo this morning.

The 17-year-old announced the release of the clip this morning on Twitter, but within minutes access was lost.

The video, shot in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and directed by Young Replicant (The xx), was back online by 11.30am.

"It was important to me that we cast real people with real faces. [H]olla acne!," Lorde said.

"This video was borne from a dream I had a few months ago about teenagers in their own world, a world with hierarchies and initiations, where the boy who was second in command had acne on his face, and so did the girl who was queen," she said about the video on her Facebook page.

"I dreamt about this world being so different to anything anyone had ever seen, a dark world full of tropical plants and ruins and sweat.

"And of this world, i dreamt about tests that didn't need to be passed in order to be allowed in: sometimes the person who loses is stronger. enjoy xx".

Lorde, who features on scores of best song of the year lists and has seen her hit Royals top the US charts, also let us in on what she's been listening to, sharing her top songs of 2013 with Aussie radio station Triple J.

Among her favourites are Kanye West with Hold My Liquor , Drake's Hold On, We're Going Home and Daft Punk's Get Lucky.

There's also electro number Drops by Jungle, Lo-Fang's 88 and Deptford Goth's Feel Real.
