Jersey Boys, one of the world's biggest theatre sensations, is coming to Auckland in 2012, it has been confirmed.

This morning Auckland Mayor Len Brown announced Jersey Boys, the Tony Award-winning musical based on '60s pop band the Four Seasons, will hit Auckland's Civic Theatre in April next year.

It will run for a season of almost 11 weeks, with audience numbers of around 200,000 expected to attend.

The show tells the story of four blue-collar kids who rose from nothing to become one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time.

Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudo, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi - The Four Seasons - wrote all their own songs, invented their own sound and sold 175 million records worldwide, all before they were 30.

Featuring their hit songs Big Girls Don't Cry, Can't Take My Eyes Off You and Oh What a Night, Jersey Boys takes audiences up the charts and around the world.

The musical has broken attendance records and has been in Australia for the past two years performing to sell out audiences, with more than 900,000 people seeing it.

Worldwide, the show has been seen by around 12.5 million people and there are five productions being staged in Broadway, Las Vegas, a US national tour, London and Sydney.

Ticket details will be announced through www.jerseyboysnz.co.nz.
