It's Jazz Festival time - the Wellington Jazz Festival kicks off today, four days (and nights) of2014 Wellington Jazz Festival great music. Of course I started spreading the news a while back, blogging about the early announcements; the international headliners.

Since then the full program has revealed a heap of shows - some really great local acts as well as the international shows.

To break it down further here's a look at what Meow is hosting - plenty of highlights there, including sets from Alphabethead, Riki Gooch and Orchestra of Spheres.

The newly launched/reopened/refurbished/rebranded San Fran also has a full program of events - including Front Liners tonight and the Wellington Mingus Ensemble tomorrow from 10pm.

There'll be busking in the street - Cuba Mall will be filled by music tomorrow, actual music rather than the usual busking-stuff...

And of course there's those headliners from overseas. I spoke to Joshua Redman recently. I also interviewed Chick Corea. And I've just posted my interview with the bassist from Dawn of Midi. The Dawn of Midi show will be a major highlight; that's the one I'm looking forward to. Love the album. And if you want to see the show check out my interview and leave a comment to be in to win a double-pass to Sunday night's show.

Jazz DJI'll be heading along to as many of these shows as I can - and I'm also playing jazz records - all jazz, all vinyl - from 7-'10pm at the San Fran on Saturday night. There'll be great acts either side of my jazz DJ set, so come check out the new bar; new menu, new list of beers, new look...

There'll be a lot of great jazz music this weekend. This festival has thought about where jazz is heading too, not merely offering you just a taste of where jazz, for a lot of people, seems to have always been.

Finally, I thought I'd mention a couple of new album reviews, in keeping with the jazz theme. Marc Ribot's Live at The Village Vanguard is spinning my head and kicking my ass currently. A wonderful whirlwind of a record. And also Stanton Moore's Conversations is a lovely little slice of New Orleans-infused second line funk/jazz from a great drummer.

I also discovered a favourite record from the past recently, finding the Monty Alexander Trio Live at Montreux LP. Might play something from it on Saturday...Start spreadin' the news...

So there's the news, regarding Wellington's Jazz Festival. Spread once again...
