Win tickets to see Wilco
Last week I gave you a Christmas card of sorts - if you can call a terrible singer singing a bad song terribly a Christmas Card.
Well this week - just a couple of days before Christmas Day - I want to introduce to you a potential Christmas present.
It is, as Hayley Westenra would say, my gift to you.
But you have to like Wilco.
This shouldn't be a hard thing - because a) Wilco is a very good band and b) even if you don't think so you're bound to know someone who likes them and they will want to see them. There's also c) the fact that Wilco is a great live act - even if you don't consider yourself a fan.
So - a couple of weeks ago it was announced that Wilco is returning to New Zealand. I even talked about it here at Blog on the Tracks - click here if you missed it the first time.
Since then I have been chatting with the people higher up, scheming, dreaming and in the end teaming up with them to offer what I think is a pretty cool prize; or in fact set of prizes.
It's not so much a first, second, third as it is a first-equal. Well, there are two prizes for Auckland and one for Wellington - but that's probably a fair divide.
So - here it is. Blog on the Tracks is offering three lucky readers a double pass to the Wilco show in either Auckland or Wellington. And I have two copies of the latest CD, Wilco (The Album) to give away. And one copy of the band's recent (and superb) concert-film/documentary DVD, Ashes of American Flags.
It breaks down like this: one person in Wellington will win themselves 2x tickets to the show + one CD. It will be the same for one person in Auckland. And then one other Auckland-based concert-goer will score the two tickets and the DVD. Pretty sweet, right?
To be in to win you need to post a comment here - stating why you want to win. And you need to also post a comment on the wall of the Blog on the Tracks Facebook page. If you are already a fan of the page you can go and comment - if not, then click at the bottom of this post where there will be a link to the page and you can sign up.
On the Facebook page you'll need to list your favourite Wilco album and favourite three songs.
This competition will be open across Christmas and the holidays - we'll come back to it in mid-January and all the people who have registered will be in to win...
Good luck - register your interest from today.
Who is looking forward to seeing Wilco? And who wants to win a double-pass to the show?
When the band played here last time I interviewed drummer Glenn Kotche (see here if you missed it). And here's my review of the show. I'm definitely keen to see them again...and hoping to get an interview with another band member nearer the time of this tour.

I already have tickets to Wellington, and all the 'stuff' you've mentioned. I want to win the Auckland prize so that you can send them direct to my dear old music loving friend in the big smoke... He's blissfully unaware of Wilco, but I know he'd love them, so this would quite likely kickstart an obsession.
I wish I had a sob story... but I cannot lie.
I want to win, because I love Wilco! Their albums have meant so much to over the past few years and have provided plenty of enjoyment. Plus, I'd be really excited to see Nels in concert. He is amazing!
Damn! I should have written my response in Son Voolt lyrics...
I'd love to win, because my girlfriend has been bugging me to go to Wellington with her for a weekend, but I never had a good excuse to do it. If I win then that's the perfect excuse and it'll be a win win. So go on and help a brother out. Help me see a great concert in Welly and please the partner which in turn will please me ;P
Hi Simon,
I would love tickets to see these guys. In all hoensty, I really don't know much about Wilco, but have seen the name assiocated with good things for a while now.
What a better way to get to know a band..see em live in all their splendour.... so please, thank you.
I'd love to win Auckland tickets and DVD...being a fan I already have the album. Saw Wilco twice last time they were here (Bluesfest and Auckland) and was blown away. Was already a fan but wasn't prepared for the show they put on. Even met Jeff Tweedy in 2003 at Borders in Auckland! I don't think he expected anyone to recognise him.
Dam it, I don't have a facebook account!
This discriminates against the sane, who know FB to be evil. I will pay for my ticket thanks. Wilco are the shizz-nit.
Right, folks, I couldn't care less about Wilco, but I'd like to take the opportunity to wish you all a happy Christmas. I'm going off to demolish spome beer, wine and whisky for the next three weeks, before giving up the fags and getting in some sort of shape that isn't circular. Have a good one everyone.

Because Wilco is part of the space time continuum. Because I'm an Uncle Tupelo and Carter Family fan. Because Jeff Tweedy is funny. Because it takes Wilco to get me to post my first ever comment on Stuff (despite the site being required daily reading). Because I'll never ever get to see them otherwise.
