Predators, vampires and the A-Team, oh my!
There's something for everyone, it seems, especially if you like sequels, franchises and reboots of old brands...
First up there's an interesting-looking sneak preview of Robert Rodriguez's reboot of the Predator franchise, Predators (see the preview footage of Predators here), in which an elite group of warriors is hunted by an alien race. Looks like an inriguing cast, with Danny Trejo (he once made me waffles), Adrien Brody, Topher Grace (as an elite warrior - surely not!), Alice Braga, Laurence Fishburne, and a teasing glimpse of new breeds of Predators! Predators is due to hit New Zealand cinemas on July 8.
Then there's the (squeal!) first look at the next Twilight instalment (click here to see the new trailer), with Eclipse - due out on July 1 - getting all hot and heavy as Kirsten Stewart's clutzy heroine Bella is torn between a spunky white vampire and a spunky brown werewolf.
Decisions, decisions. It's like being a cat person or a dog person. At some point, you've gotta pick sides.
Me, I'm willing to sit through Eclipse as long as we get to see the lunacy of the final book, Breaking Dawn, on the big screen. Two tantalising words - vampire caesarean. (Maybe Marilyn Manson should direct... or at the very least Tim Burton.)
I'm sooo looking forward to seeing how they handle the insanity of the paedophilic love story between a vampire-human hybrid baby and a teen werewolf, too - all while keeping it M-rated for the tweens (apologies if that was a spoiler for anyone... but, really, if you cared, you'd have read the books by now). Plus, Breaking Dawn has possibly the worst babyname ever to make it past a book editor.
For those who know who said: "I love it when a plan comes together" (without googling it - I pity the fool who does) there's a little slice of your 80s childhood being swished up, repackaged and sold back to you in the form of the A-Team movie (here's the trailer). The A-Team stars an ab-tastic Bradley Cooper as Faceman, a slumming-it Liam Neeson as Hannibal, a big mohawked dude called Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as BA Baracus, and a chance to see Sharlto Copley from District Nine attempting an American accent as Murdoch (and yes, there will be cameos from some of the original TV actors). Due out in NZ, June 11, with added Jessica Biel. Prepare for lots of 'splosions and catchphrases.
For the younger set, there's the latest Shrek Forever After trailer (click here), but I'm pretty sure this franchise is past its sell-by date. (In cinemas on June 24.)
For something cool happening much closer to now and live (!), cult author and screenwriter Neil (just visited the Weta Cave) Gaiman's favourite Dresden Doll, Amanda Palmer is performing at AL's Bar, Tuesday night in the Churchur. She recently wrote on her blog: "People love to judge. Too feminist, not feminist enough, too outspoken, not outspoken enough, too intellectual, too dumb, too glam, too underdressed, too funny, not funny enough, too inappropriate, too safe. Fat, irritating, loud, marrying my favourite author and now I f...ing hate her. Blah blah blah etc, ad infinitum. This is something I've just had to learn to live with." Should be an interesting show, but not for the fainthearted.
So, what are you looking forward to seeing?

Danny Trejo once made you waffles???? Intense! How was that for an experience? I can't imagine him in an apron... *shakes head in amazement and prepares to read the rest of the blog*
I heard that Breaking Dawn is being made into TWO movies.
And yes, Eclipse is a painful read. Bella, you have a God like Edward. Why the hell are you throwing yourself at that filthy dog?!
Yep, I'm a guy who read Twilight and just didn't "get" some of it, lol.
Its Hannibal that says that isnt it?
also Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson Duet on the last twihard movie
First up : twilight is utter rubbish being the first, second or third film.... You couldn't pay me enough to see any of those movies or books..
Predator:That looks like fun! pity arnie won't be there but looks like it has the scare factor in it unlike the other poor attempts lately.
A-team:Harmless movie, but will hold judgment till i see a fuller trailer get released.
Predators- I am a big fan, and that movie looks pretty dang cool... though I do have reservations about Rodriquez.. Sin City aside, his body of work so far hasn't been fantastic.
I have two words for you - Rob Zombie.
If anyone can bring the gore of vampie caesarean to the screen, it would be that man.
Keen as to see predators but I am really unsure about the casting??
Interested to see what Rodriguez does with Predators. Considering his previous action films he definitely has the chops to pull it off - provided he doesn't go Spy Kids on it.
BTW, I see Machete is in post prod, due out this year.
The A-Team is just enough before my time (I was born during its original run), so not really sure what to expect, but the trailer doesn't give me much hope.
I like Shrek, but I thought it lost its originality sometime during Shrek 2. Shrek 3 was just plain meh.
Big fan of Neil Gaiman, would like to see him team up with Peter Jackson on some kind of shlock horror thing.
As for the twilight twaddle - *yawn*.
