Cheryl Cole is to appear in a comic book.

The 26-year-old pop star is set to appear in long-running British comic The Beano as a singing sidekick to bad girl character Minnie the Minx.

And Cheryl is not the only famous face making an appearance in the publication's pages, England soccer player Wayne Rooney is also set to appear in a number of issues.

A Beano spokesman said: "Minnie the Minx will be meeting Cheryl and Wayne in a run of stories which will coincide with the school summer holidays.

"They are both hugely popular with readers and I'm sure they'll be thrilled at the prospect of them coming face to face with a British institution, in the shape of Minnie."

Cheryl, 26, will perform a duet with Minnie, while Wayne, 24, will do battle with her on the pitch.

Publishers DC Thomson are believed to have been inspired to feature Cheryl after seeing her in an Alexander McQueen-designed red-and-black striped outfit - the same colours red-haired Minnie wears - in the video for her hit single 'Fight for This Love'.
