British author JK Rowling, creator of the Harry Potter series of books, has just revealed the title of her new as yet unfinished novel.

Naturally, this set off a flurry of guesses from the Harry Potter author's 10 million followers, with suggested titles ranging from the sublime (Python Shame) to the ridiculous (Mighty Thumb). (Or vice versa for that matter.)

Some Rowling fans couldn't help being suspicious though. "You know if you're not joking, someone WILL figure it out from this, right?" tweeted one, while another just wanted to know "if someone figures it out will you say?"

The 51-year-old answered these concerns with typical Rowling aplomb however, replying "Of course they will. I never underestimate you people" to the former and "Of course, otherwise this isn't so much a puzzle as, you know, an exercise in sadism" to the latter.

It took less than an hour for someone to guess the as yet unfinished manuscript's correct title (Lethal White), with Rowling obviously taking great delight in the whole exercise - possibly as a diversion from getting on with actually writing the novel.

"Well, that was fun. Back to chapter 23," she tweeted at the end of it all, after promising the winner "a signed copy when I finally finish it!"

Lethal White will be the fourth in Rowling's 'Cormoran Strike' series of detective novels, which are published under the pseudonym 'Robert Galbraith'.
