Lena Dunham has posed in her knickers for a photoshoot for her upcoming book Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned (have we mentioned that we’re beside ourselves with excitement?)

Dunham was lensed by photographer Autumn de Wilde, who has photographed the likes of Fiona Apple, The White Stripes and works with fashion label Rodarte. In one picture, Dunham wears an excellent pair of leopard print underpants and a cropped pink jumper.

In another she wears beige bloomers and snuggles with a cute dog.

My favourite is the this one where Dunham is writhing around on the ground. Be serious.

Dunham was styled up by Shirley Kurata. Something that Dunham is super excited about – sharing the pics on Instagram with the caption: "It's always a mythic day with @shirleykurata (regram from @officialautumndewilde)."

The choice of a photoshoot in her underpants is another reason to love Lena, who in a recent episode of Girls spent the entire episode in a lime green string bikini. If that's not the best kind of sly dig at all of the haters and the body snarkers then I don't know what is.

It's been a big week for Dunham, the Girls creator was also named as a host of SNL (finally!) on March 8.

Count down to the book's release in October just got even more absolutely jam packed with anticipation.
