Scottish novelist Alexander McCall Smith, best known for his No1 Ladies' Detective Agency series, makes a welcome visit to New Zealand for two events at May's Auckland Writers Festival.

Ahead of the festival, tune in to The Hay Sessions on Sky's Arts Channel, tonight at 9.15pm.

In this thought-provoking series leading filmmakers, novelists, philosophers and poets travel to Hay-on-Wye, in the beautiful Brecon Beacons, to share stories and ideas.

In Monday's episode, McCall Smith chats to Paul Blezard about his best-selling novels featuring Botswana's only female private investigator, the first of which was published 15 years ago and have subsequently been turned into a successful TV series.

Thanks to the Arts Channel, we have 5 double passes to give away to the Auckland Writers Festival event, An Evening With Alexander McCall Smith in which the author will be in conversation with veteran broadcaster Jim Mora.

How to win: Send an email with your name, address, post code and phone number, to competitions@stuff.co.nz.

All entries must be received before 10am on Thursday, April 10 to go in the draw. Please ensure the email subject line says Writers Festival.
