Joan Rivers, who died on Friday aged 81, has been honoured on social media as a friend, mentor and inspiration.

Celebrities remembered the comedian's verve and fearlessness. Female comics thanked her for blazing the trail and talk show stars bowed to a master.

Some speculated heaven just became a funnier place.
