Matthew Ridge was trying to save a BMW car from hitting a wall when it pinned him, fracturing his pelvis and hip, one of his employees has said.
The former All Black and Kiwi star was injured yesterday at his Greenlane car grooming business Car Fe, manager Priteeka Chan said.
She said Ridge called her from hospital today to tell her he had about five fractures and would be not be able to stand up for a while.
Ms Chan said she called an ambulance when she saw her boss pinned by the late model BMW against a wall.
"It was a manual car. It started to roll back slowly. I think Matt saw it and tried to come (stop it) ... and it hit him."
