Ousted Miss California USA winner Carrie Prejean has spoken out about her shock axing, claiming pageant officials tried to get her to pose nude for Playboy magazine.
In her first interview since pageant owner Donald Trump removed her crown and gave it to runner-up Tami Farrell, Prejean said she was asked to accept an offer to pose nude for Playboy magazine.
She was removed as winner by Trump on Wednesday because officials said she was not fulfilling the conditions of her contract and attending sanctioned Miss California USA functions.
But Prejean told celebrity gossip website TMZ.com she was ousted after rejecting a US$140,000 offer to strip for Playboy. She also turned down a role on trashy reality show I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!
Pageant executive director Keith Lewis denied Prejean was pushed to do either job and said he was merely passing on job offers to the beauty queen. Prejean insisted they not turn any offer down without running it by her first, he said.
Prejean - who was embroiled in several controversies around the time of her win, including a series of topless photos leaking online and her stance on gay marriage - said she was "shocked" by her dumping.
"What's behind this I think is a political debate. They don't agree with the stance that I took (on gay marriage) ... They don't like me. From day one they wanted me out and they got what they wanted."
Trump and other pageant leaders said Prejean was sacked because she hadn't been holding up her end of the agreement signed when she entered the pageant.
"This was a decision based solely on contract violations, including Ms Prejean's unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organisation," Lewis said.
He had complained at a news conference last month that Prejean was skipping Miss California USA events while speaking out against gay marriage at unsanctioned appearances.
