An award-winning Kiwi singer is taking the advice of an ancient Mayan prophecy to heart by building himself an ark, like Noah, and preparing for the end of the world.
Meet Jason Kerrison, the OpShop front man who is so convinced the world is about to undergo major changes on December 21, 2012 he tells Woman's Day he's building an indestructible ark-like structure for him and his family to live in.
Sounds like he's seen that blockbuster Roland Emmerich film 2012 one too many times.
"If someone tells you the world's going to end on a certain date, then provides you with all this seemingly crazy evidence, how can you not go down that path?" Kerrison tells WD.
"I love a good mystery, so before I knew it I was scouring the internet most nights."
Good luck finding conspiracy theories on the internet, Jason. As if.
Stop laughing, because Kerrison is taking this seriously. He's got a four-year supply of emergency rations, has bought the land, employed an architect, convinced his wife Cassie and made plans to take a year off to build his "multi-million dollar" fire-retardant, watertight and wind-resistent ark.
But - surprise, surprise - Kerrison has encountered a fair few doubters out there. Perhaps that's because - after Y2K, 9/11, Michael Jackson's death and the demise of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - everyone's a little conspiracy theory fatigued.
"(My bandmates) are the hardest nuts to crack and they thought I'd lost the plot long ago, so they let me carry on down my path ... and they're the first ones to ask for a place in (the ark)," Kerrison says.
"We want it to be sustainable, unique and funky-looking ... It's somewhere to save the family, the future and our children."
Nice ambition. But imagine the cabin fever.
Meanwhile, Sally Ridge is recovering from a brazen Christmas burglary carried out while she, her fiancé Adam and four children were fast asleep. Burglars stole a laptop and a camera containing irreplaceable photos.
"We heard nothing, not a thing," Ridge tells Woman's Weekly.
"It's so horrible to think someone had been in the house when we were sleeping and I hate to think what could have happened if any of us had got up and disturbed them."
Bad Santa. You're supposed to drink the beer, munch the cookies and leave a whole heap of presents for the family - not steal stuff.
Elsewhere, New Idea has been traipsing around after the scarily tall and toned Tyra Banks during her recent New Zealand visit, and even got her to admit that our version of Next Top Model is better than hers. Sort of.
"I'm actually a little jealous," Banks told NI. We've done 14 cycles of Next Top Model and we've done about every photo shoot, but I saw the old Hollywood shoot your models did, and I was a little bit jealous, so I think we might copy you guys."
Charge her for that TV3. She's rich enough - she can pay through the nose.
Finally, the quote of the week comes from slimmed down Australian Idol judge Ian 'Dicko' Dickson: "Why would you want to stuff yourself and feel like a big tub of lard on a day like that? Eat fresh, eat healthy, eat and drink wisely and have a great Christmas."
Amen to that. Take it easy out there. And have a break from the gossip. You deserve it.

Who cares Opshop's music is terrible,he never should have won awards in the first place, the world ended when music like this became the accepted into the mainstream, its watery rubbish nothing interesting about this man or his lyrics.New Zealand Rock needs a big "wake the call",I'm sick of hearing his music and his opinion on anything.
Nutters!
Jason, I've watched 2012 Doco's and yeah I've surfed the net. Also realised I mispelled era but big deal, you get my drift.
People believe what they want to Jason, and it was my intrigue in the Mayans and Nostradamus's writings that led me to the assumption that something may occur in 2012.
If you throw stones at me for considering something may occur in 2012 you may as well throw stones at Christians for believing in God. There is no proof that God exists just as there is no proof that 2012 will herald some big change but humans choose to subscribe to their own views regardless and they base their belief on teachings, media, internet, the bible, whatever.
It's generally the minority belief that is persecuted and the only reason religion isn't viewed in the same way is because the majority of people subscribe to it which makes it real for the greater population.
One last comment, The world we live in is not the world we live in. Ponder that and have a Happy New Year.
@Stacey#7 absolutely agree, there will be an "awakening in human consciousness, whereby humans will realise something that affects all mankind", that mind bending realization.... 21/12/2012 was yesterday; today is 22/12/2012, the world is still spinning and humanity remains unchanged. Oh for sure you'll find some mystic change in humanity, just like the number 23 appears everywhere and the answer to Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything is 42, I only hope your wearing your tin foil hat.
So... in a nutshell, Jason Kerrison has lost his marbles?
Stacey #7 - I'd like to know why you think that will happen. And why specifically on the 21st? Did you also do some important research 'on the internet' too? And I couldn't agree more that you are 'living in this error'!
December 22nd 2012 will certainly be an interesting day. I wonder how many thousands of people the world will have lost to extreme conclusions of such deluded beliefs.
I believe something will occur on 21/12/12 in relation to the Mayan prophecy. I originally thought it would be a cataclismic event as depicted in the 2012 movie but I now subscribe to the theory that it will be an awakening in human consciousness, whereby humans will realise something that affects all mankind and topical issues of the day such as wars and personal tribulations will become insignificant on the realisation of what is in store. Im just glad to be living in this error so I can witness whatever the event will be.
@ Tsunade #5
Good luck if Wickapedia is your gospel.
All it takes is a visit to ol'Wikipedia to see that it's not a Mayan prophecy; it's a Western conspiracy theory grown out of misinterpreting a Mayan measurement of time.
