Kiwi movie star Cliff Curtis came home to get married but the identity of his new wife remains a mystery.

Curtis - who has appeared in Hollywood films such as Collateral Damage with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Training Day with Denzel Washington, Die Hard 4.0 with Bruce Willis and Three Kings starring George Clooney - got married at his family marae at Lake Rotoiti, near Rotorua.

Auckland freelance photographer Maurie Hill told the Herald on Sunday he was holidaying in Rotoiti when he "suddenly discovered a bit of excitement in the place".

"She was a pretty Asian girl, she had about a dozen bridesmaids and a large number of whanau," he said.

"They all seemed excited. They left on the boat at about 3.30pm - she was quite a doll."

Uncle Toby Curtis said the bride's family had travelled from Asia, and about 200 mostly family guests attended the wedding.
