Judge orders Sheen to appear in court

COURT ORDER: A Colorado judge has denied actor Charlie Sheen's request to avoid personally appearing at a court hearing stemming from his domestic violence arrest on Christmas day.

A Colorado judge has denied actor Charlie Sheen's request to avoid personally appearing at a court hearing stemming from his domestic violence arrest on Christmas day, a prosecutor said.

The Two and a Half Men star had asked to participate by phone in the January 20 hearing, which was scheduled to address a request to modify his wife's protective order so they can resume contact, prosecutor Arnold Mordkin told Reuters.

A representative for Sheen declined to comment.

Sheen was arrested on suspicion of assault, menacing and criminal mischief in the posh ski resort town of Aspen after his wife, Brooke Mueller, made an emergency call to police in which she told a dispatcher Sheen threatened her with a knife.

A recording of that call was released by police in December. The two were arguing about a possible divorce, according to a police report.

The decision by Pitkin County District Court Judge James Boyd means Sheen must appear in an Aspen courthouse, where the actor is expected to face a crowd of paparazzi photographers.

Sheen is due to appear at another hearing February 8, where prosecutors plan to formally charge him on the three counts.

This week, underwear and clothing company Hanesbrands Inc said it has suspended its TV commercials featuring Sheen.
