Heidi Montag's plastic surgery nightmare is getting worse after the reality TV star admitted she nearly died after having 10 cosmetic procedures carried out in one day.
Montag, The Hills star who has courted controversy after granting interviews while still recovering from November's operations, now says the surgery nearly killed her.
The 23-year-old Playboy covergirl had 10 procudeures - including Botox, liposuction, a nose job, fat injections in her face and augmentations to her breasts and buttocks - in 10 hours and said the operation nearly killed her.
"I almost died after my procedure," Montag told Access Hollywood, saying she looked like she had been "hit by a truck" after the surgery. She had been planning the procedures since she had her breasts enlarged three years ago.
"I had too much Demerol like Michael Jackson did and my breathing was five breaths per minute which is like almost dead. (I was) in an aftercare centre, there were nurses that were supposed to be tending to me at all times," she said.
"So thank God, Charles, one of my security guys used to be an EMT, and he was timing my breath on his watch and he called the nurses.
"They had to put oxygen on my face and called my plastic surgeon to come in for an emergency. So, it was a very traumatic experience for me."
She said the surgery had been a "spiritual experience," but denied she was addicted to plastic surgery in an interview with ABC News.
"If you are addicted to something, you have to do it all the time."
Montag's surgeon said the procedures were only "little tweaks" and it was safer to do them all together.
Asked why she felt the need for surgery, Montag - who will launch her career as a pop star this year - denied getting it done to promote her career.
"I think I look like myself. I think I just look like a different, improved version of myself," she said.
People magazine, which ran a cover story on Montag with the headline, "Addicted to plastic surgery," reported that observers were upset at the message a 23-year-old getting that much plastic surgery sent to young fans.
But Montag said she was the one who had to look "in the mirror".
"I'm in a different industry," she said. "I'm in the limelight and I have to do things that make me happy at the end of the day ... It's my career, my life, and I have to take advantage.
"I have to be the best me I can be."
